A Member of Parliament on Monday stirred a political storm in Uasin Gishu when he said Governor Jackson Mandago will contest for the presidency in 2032.
Kapseret lawmaker Oscar Sudi said Mandago is prepared for the "big test" and going by his experience as governor, he will make a good president.
Sudi who spoke during the burial of international athlete Asbel Kiprop's brother in Kapseret said Mandago has the backing of many Kenyans and is ready to hit the campaign trail and clinch the presidency.
Sudi made the remarks after telling Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to shelve his 2022 presidential bid and support Deputy President William Ruto.
He said if Moi won't support Ruto in 2022, then he should forget the presidency altogether.
"For now we only know of one candidate for 2022 presidential race, and that is the deputy president," Sudi said amid applause.
"Others can wait for 2032. If they are unwilling to wait, we will support Governor Mandago instead after the deputy president completes his term," he added
Both Moi and Ruto have expressed interest in vying for the presidency in 2022. The development has divided voters in the vote-rich region with other supporting the deputy president while others are in support of Senator Moi.
