Following the recent protest demos Governors Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu) and Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet) led at Moi University last week, the two have been ordered to record statements at the CID headquarters in Nairobi.
Warrants of arrest had already been issued against Mandago and Toglos and they responded by availing themselves at the CID offices early Tuesday morning.
They were last week quoted as saying that they would interfere with the university’s normal operations, including the graduation, unless Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi rescinded his decision to appoint Prof Laban Ayiro the acting VC of Moi University.
The governors protested on grounds that they were not going to accept an ‘outsider’ to head the institution in the Uasin Gishu county.
According to them, only a person from the community would be allowed to head the University, and their selection was on Prof Isaac Kosgey who had "topped" the selection criteria.
Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery had then ordered that the two among others be arrested on grounds that they had incited the public to hold protests against the ministry and university management.
