Two MPs from Kakamega have raised their concern over the recent incident at Moi University Eldoret where two governors led a group of politicians in storming the institution.

The Governors, Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet) and host of MPs were demanding that Prof Laban Ayiro should not take over the management of the institution as acting Vice Chancellor.

They argued that Prof Ayiro was an 'outsider' and could thus not be allowed to run the university.

MPs Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo) and Ayub Savula (Lugari) described the action by the politicians as primitive and that it will not promote national unity in a country where tribalism is high.

According to Savula, the incident heightened tension ahead of the 2017 general election.

"It is hypocrisy of the highest order for Jubilee leaders claiming to unite Kenyans to stop another Kenyan from leading a national institution just because he is a Luhya," Savula was quoted by the Star as saying.

On his part, Wangwe challenged Deputy President William Ruto to tame governors Mandago and Tolgos.

"They are from the DP's backyard yet the language they are speaking is anti-unity," he said.

"We are watching what is happening and we shall not make any move until we see action from him on the manner in which his people are treating our professionals."
