Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has cried foul over residents not showing up in public participation forums whenever called up.
He said in the last five years a handful of people had been showing up for the exercise thus making it hard to start programs at the ward levels.
“It is sad that people refuse to attend public participation forums and yet they are the ones who complain the most that certain projects were done instead of the other, high permit and licenses rates among others. This time around if you will not attend don’t complain,” he said in Eldoret town, Saturday.
“How can a meeting are attended by less than 50 people in the whole ward, I think there is something wrong. Residents should embrace public participation it enhances transparency and accountability,” he added.
He reiterated that devolution will not prosper if the public will shy away from public participation.
“I call upon MCA’s to ensure that attend such forums this will also attract other residents,” noted Mandago.
