Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has urged Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority (TVETA) to conduct an inspection and close rogue colleges in Eldoret town.
He said some colleges are not registered thus putting the future of students at risk.
“Some colleges in Eldoret town which I will not disclose are not certified to offer technical courses and lack adequate training equipment yet they are still admitting students. The authority should work at speed close such colleges before things get out of hand,” he said in Eldoret town, Sunday.
“It is very painful for a parent to waste all that amount of money and time for a student to pursue a course that at long last will not be recognized in the job market. We want colleges to provide market-driven and competent skilled workforce with recognized training and certification,” he added.
He advised parents to always conduct research to know whether the college he wants to admit his/her child is registered and has enough facilities.
“Surely parents how can you admit your child to pursue electrical engineering in a college that does not have equipment’s, how will they conduct their practical’s? You should also style up and conduct proper research,” noted Mandago
