Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has cautioned the government against slashing revenue allocation to devolved units.
This is after Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich revealed that the government was looking at the possibility of reducing funds that will be channeled to the 47 counties following financial challenges they are facing.
However, Mandago said such a move was unacceptable and uncalled for as it would derail development agenda for the counties.
"I will not allow the money meant for counties to even be reduced by a single cent since we have engaged contractors and suppliers, where do they want us to get the money to pay them?" asked Mandago.
"CS Rotich, it's your mandate to manage the country's cash flow and if you slept on your job you should look for other avenues get funds and not slashing the county governments funds," he added.
The vocal Jubilee governor reiterated that for devolution to flourish, the treasury should be disbursing the county governments funds on time for them to run its business at ease.
"It's sad that sometimes we are forced to stay without salaries because of delayed funds from the treasury, I, therefore, call upon CS Rotich to ensure that the funds are distributed on time," he noted.
