Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago's bid recapture his seat during the August polls received a major boost after Deputy President William Ruto endorsed the controversial County Chief for re-election on Sunday.
However, despite the DP's declaration, Mandago could still face an uphill battle in his attempt to get reelected, local political observer Josiah Kemboi has argued.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Kemboi noted that Mandago's rivals could still give the outspoken governor a run for his money.
"The DP's declaration might serve little to dim Buzeki's bid to unseat Mandago," he said.
Mandago is facing stiff competition from millionaire businessman Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki who is seeking to unseat him.
Despite Buzeki losing the Jubilee Party ticket to Mandago during the party primaries, he has still managed to put up a spirited campaign ahead of general elections.
He is now eyeing Uasin Gishu's top seat as an independent candidate.
