Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has asked the Ministry of Education to allow the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) to put up constituent colleges across the country.
This, Mandago says will ensure the country has adequate technical teachers for vocational and technical training institutes being set up in every constituency.
“It’s sad that we only have one KTTC college in the entire country despite the increasing number of Technical Training Institutes (TTI’s) and Vocational Training Colleges. I want to call upon the Ministry of Education to allocate more funds to allow the college to expand,” said the governor in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
"It is important for more KTTC campuses to be opened to avoid crowding and high costs incurred by students in Nairobi. We have VTCs here, we can even donate one of them to start off the teacher's trainers program,” he added.
The vocal county boss noted that with the government establishing Technical raining Institutions (TTI's) in each sub-county, there will be a big demand for teachers to lecture in the institutions, therefore, need to have more constituent colleges to train more technical teachers on the same.
It is only recently that Mandago signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KTTC that will see 98 students sponsored by his administration join the Gigiri-based technical teachers training institution.
