Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has mourned the late Bishop Cornelius Korir as a peacemaker and true mediator.
In a statement, the governor heaped praise on the bishop, who passed on at his home on Monday.
Here is Mandago's tribute to the late Catholic bishop:
"I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Eldoret Catholic diocese Bishop Cornelius Kipng'eno Korir.
I pray that God will grant strength to the family of the late Bishop, Catholic diocese of Eldoret and the entire Catholic fraternity world over.
Bishop Korir was a dedicated servant of God who devoted his life to serving God and humanity.
He was a peacemaker, a diplomat, compassionate to humanity and a true definition of a mediator.
We have truly lost a key figure in the leadership our country. In the more than 34 years that he has served as the Priest and a Bishop, apart from preaching the word of God, he will be remembered for expanding medical and educational facilities within the diocese, assisting the poor, transforming cattle rustlers and warriors in West Pokot to good reliable people and mediating a healing process in the North Rift region after post-election violence in 2007/08 among others.
I have known Rgt Bishop Korir as a friend, a spiritual and political mentor since I was a youth.
I join other Christian faithful in praying for his soul, as it is written in the book of Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand".
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE"
