Mandera East MP Abdulaziz Farah has withdrawn from the August elections.

Farah has cited frustrations by Garre Council of Elders' who are pushing for negotiated democracy.

The MP, who was to seek re-election under Jubilee Party, claimed the elders were behind his political downfall.

He accused them of suppressing his good leadership.

"I am not in the race for MP. Negotiated democracy has caused confusion to the people of Mandera," Farah said.

"The end results of negotiated democracy are not worth investing in because almost every candidate feels shortchanged by the elders."

Farah said that he is disappointed but was keen to ensure clan politics does not divide the county.

"I had to mind the community and avoid punching the decision makers so that my future can remain stable."
