Mandera Governor Ali Korane has halted buying of land in dispute prone areas of the region.
The governor noted that the move was meant to avoid escalating tension in the region originating from land issues.
The Governor was speaking at Neboi on Wednesday when he convened a meeting with community elders representing various clans to resolve land dispute in the area.
"Clan based land disputes in the cosmopolitan Mandera town is unacceptable and I urge the elders to intervene in this issue and avoid an escalation of tensions between community members," the governor posted on his Facebook page.
"I have ordered barring any acquisition of land in the disputed area until proper survery is conducted," he added.
He further noted that clan elders agreed with the plan to halt acquisition of land.
