Several police officers in Mandera are nursing injuries after their vehicle hit a landmine believed to have been planted by the Al-Shabaab militia group.
Confirming the incident, Lafey OCPD, Bosita Omukongolo said the incident happened on Sunday at 10 am when the officers were on patrol.
Omukongolo said the police were heading to Fino from Lafey in two vehicles when the front car ran over the landmine. He said the device was planted in the middle of the road at Sheikh Barrow.
‘'The officers are now in stable condition as they were treated at the Fino Health Centre. Only those in the front vehicle were hurt. The damaged vehicle can still be used,’' said the OCPD.
The Mandera County commissioner, Fredrick Shisia called on the residents to be careful. He said that police have been carrying out patrols in the area for a long time.
