Mandera residents have nothing to smile about, after the recently announced suspension of the dawn to dusk curfew was once again extended.

This comes after recent attacks in the county and neighboring county by suspected Al Shabaab militants.

More than eight officers have lost their lives in a span of three days.

Five officers in Governor Ali Roba’s convoy were killed when their vehicle was blown up after running over an improvised explosive device between Lafey and Arabia in Mandera.

In neighboring Garissa County, three Administration officers were killed while several others were injured when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device on Kulan-Liboi road. On both occasions Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attacks.

With the curfew back in place, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery has urged the area residents to be watchful and cooperate fully with security personnel to help the Ramadhan period remains peaceful.

The curfew has had successive extensions by the Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery with the area Governor Ali Roba worried the curfew will interfere with the holy month.

Mandera county commissioner Fredrick Shisia a week ago when announcing the lifting of suspension said it was to allow residents to take part in the Ramadhan prayers.
