A Mandera Revenue collector died on Saturday morning after being run over by a lorry at revenue collection barrier on the Mandera-Rhamu road.
The 7 am incident happened after the lorry’s brakes failed before hitting the 35 years old man who was collecting tax from a Probox taxi.
The lorry was stashed with red clay soil used for making building blocks in the region.The deceased identified by Police as Aden Ibrahim Hassan succumbed to his injuries before reaching the Mandera county hospital.
The Mandera East OCPD, Ezekiel Sing’oei confirmed the accident, saying the driver (Dahir Mamow Samow) of the lorry registration number KAY 100A is already in police custody after confessing to having caused the accident.
“In fact, the driver of the lorry came to the station and said the lorry’s brakes went loose before the tragic accident," said Sing’oei.
