Residents of Manga now want the county government of Nyamira to take responsibility over the poor state of Manga-Miriri road after construction was allegedly abandoned by the contractor.

The residents say the state of the road has paralysed farming activities in the region by making transport of farm products impossible due to ongoing rains.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Thursday on the phone, residents led by former Councillor John Mogusu demanded to know why the county had taken long to respond to the crisis despite taking complaints to the county committee on roads.

“We are kindly making an appeal to the county government to explain why it has taken long for the work to be completed. Most of us can no longer transport our produce to markets because of the poor status of the road. It’s solely the mistake of the county government because they have the responsibility to follow up on the contractor,” he said.

They wondered why the contractor would abandon duty yet the county had budgeted for it before the road was officially identified for construction.

The county could be sleeping g on its job because they had started the project and it will be difficult to explain to us why they are taking long to complete the road. We are losing a lot and something urgent should be done,” he said.

They said the menace was affecting tea farming since vehicles designated to pick the product to Tombe Tea factory could not access tea buying centres hence making farmers record huge loses.
