Speaking on Monday at the site, Manga youth group chairman Steve Ondieki said the business will enable the unemployed youths survive economically.

“This is a major step towards sustaining ourselves economically. We will no longer depend on other people,” he said.

He said they decided to start the tea nursery business since many youths were involving themselves in businesses already ventured by many people hence earning less.

“It is disgusting that we have continued to venture into crowded businesses such as subsistence farming and poultry farming that are becoming less profitable. This business is marketable and that is why we joined it,” he said.

The group plans to supply seedlings to nearby tea estates like Kipkebe and Sotik highlands besides selling to interested local tea farmers.

“We have a readily established market. With the hybrids that we are planting here, we know tea estates will be our chief clients. We once again reiterate our confidence in a stable market,” he said.

He urged other youths who were still unable to join self-employment to do so and desist from depending on white collar jobs which are competitive.
