Police have launched a manhunt for a couple that was on Thursday afternoon found in possession of one sack of bhang in Mosocho, Kisii County.
Area chief Simon Mbwayo said that the suspects escaped after they realised that police were chasing after them.
“The suspects fled immediately they discovered that they were being pursued by police officers. They abandoned 1 sack full of bhang which they were preparing to transport,” said Mbwayo.
Mr Mbwayo called on residents to report the suspects to police.
"Residents who may have information about the suspects’ hiding place should report to police so that they can be arrested. Bhang trade and smoking is illegal and anyone found will be dealt with accordingly,” he added.
Kisii County police commander Hassan Abdi confirmed the incident and said the police will not leave anything to chance.
Abdi said residents engaging in illegal activities will not be spared by the law.
"We shall ensure that the two are booked and taken to court," he said.
