Body of a 26-year-old man has been found at an Athi River hospital mortuary by family members after a two weeks search.

Daniel Otieno Opondo went missing in Athi River town two weeks ago before his family members identified his body at Shalom Community Hospital’s Mortuary on Tuesday.

Opondo who was a teacher at Bright Sparks Academy in Pipeline, Nairobi County is said to had been staying with a brother in Athi River town before relocating to Pipeline in early last month after getting the teaching job.

He was living with his younger sister before he went missing on July 5, 2016.

Athi River Police boss Sharma Wario who spoke to the Star at his office on Wednesday confirmed the incident.

Wario said body of the deceased was recovered from Mombasa Road at Syokimau area on the same day he was reported missing.

He said Opondo died on the spot after being hit by a hit and run vehicle at the area early in the morning at around 5.00 am.

Wario said the body was moved to the mortuary by officers who took long to identify that it belonged to the man who had been reported missing.

He said they had not arrested any vehicle in connection to the incident since there was no information on details of the vehicle that hit the man.

Wario called on the public to volunteer information that can lead to tracking the vehicle and its driver.

He said a second man in his early 30’s has also been reported missing in Kitengela town.

The police boss said Calister Mwangangu, employee of Athi River’s East African Cement Company reportedly went missing on Sunday.

“Mwangangu was reporting for an evening shift at EAPCC from his house in Kitengela town but did not reach the company on the fateful day,” said Wario.

Wario said the police was yet to trace the man.
