Body of a man in his early 20's was on Monday morning found lying at Katani market in Athi River, Machakos County.
It was discovered by the residents who alerted police officers from Mlolongo Police Station.
Confirming the incident, Mlolongo assistant county commissioner David Mukung said the man was not immediately identified.
Mukung said the man might had died on Sunday night only for his body to be discovered by the locals on Monday morning.
He addressed the press at his office in Mlolongo town on Monday.
Residents who confided to this writer said the deceased was well known to them.
"We knew the young man, he lived at a rented house in Ngelani market," said one of the residents who requested to remain anonymous due to sensitivity of the matter.
The source said the deceased worked in nearby construction sites within Mlolongo, Syokimau and Katani areas as a casual laborer.
He said the deceased was a known drunkard.
Mukung said cause of the deceased's death had not been established.
He said police had launched investigations into the matter.
The body was moved to Shalom Community Hospital's mortuary in Athi River.
