The body of a middle aged man who drowned in Kilonzo Dam in Nzambani Sub County has been retrieved by Red Cross officers together with police.

Residents suspected that a person had drowned in the dam after finding some clothes and shoes at the dam but nobody could be seen. They reported to unusual incident to Nzambani police station and police together with Red Cross officials launched a search for the body.

Nzambani OCPD James Mwangi confirmed the incident and urged residents to be more vigilant on water catchment areas. He said that many of the dams in the area are flooded due to the rainy season which lasted for three months.

“We have managed to retrieve the body of the victim from the dam. The victim got stuck in the mud while swimming in the dam and was unable to rescue himself. The members of the red Cross society have helped us in retrieving the body from the water,” Said Mwangi.

Area MP Mutua Mulevi also confirmed the incident and urged residents to usually accompany one another when going to the dams.

“I urge residents not to visit the dams alone to have an immediate rescue after such incidents. I advise the parents not to allow the children to come near the flooded dams,” said Mulevi.
