However, Yatta legislator Francis Mwangangi thinks manual voter system will be very necessary especially in the marginalized areas.

Speaking at Katangi Secondary School during Yatta football tournament, Mwangangi believes it will be unfair to deny a registered voter in a marginalized area hit by poor network their right to vote as a Kenyan, therefore having the manual voter register will be very vital. 

“Reports have been tabled on the floor of parliament that the North Eastern Regions have areas where network is an issue and since there are registered voters in those regions, it would only be wise if we consider having manual registers for back up,” Mwangangi said. 

Echoing these words, Attorney General Professor Githu Muigai said Kenya has manual voter system backed up by Electrical System, therefore, it would be necessary to have these manual registers in the polling stations just in case the electronic system failed. 

“These electronic gadgets are not 100% perfect and sometimes they fail, therefore we cannot rely on them fully,” Professor Githu said during a senatorial select committee meeting on Tuesday, January 3. 

Mwangangi lauded the opposition for giving dialogue a chance regarding the IEBC stalemate and halting their call for demonstrations and asked them to consider the economic state of the nation once the demonstrations begin. This he said pushes the investors away as the country is portrayed as unstable for any investment. 

“I’m sure if the opposition leaders sit with the President they will agree on the best way to solve this issue, Kenya is bigger than an individual,” Mwangangi said.

Mwangangi also said Jubilee was prepared to face it off with the other parties especially in the presidential race as there was still no presidential aspirant strong enough to unseat the President. 

“It is laughable that the opposition is still grappling with their presidential candidate and up to now none is fit enough to battle it out with President Uhuru,” he said.
