Police officers in Igonga Division Kisii South Sub County have raised alarm over increased cases of teenagers consuming alcohol.
Area police boss Nicholas Omondi, on Thursday said that parents have neglected their children something that has led them to abuse drugs.
"The number of teenagers consuming alcohol in the area is high. Parents have dropped their parental responsibilities and this has made many of the teenagers to venture into alcohol consumption," said Omondi.
He regretted that despite the efforts made by police officers, local chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials, still some individuals in the area are making and selling illicit liquor.
"It is sad that some people are still making and selling illicit alcohol which is outlawed. For the past three months we have arrested over 10 people in the area who have been charged and heavily fined in court but it seems still the businesses is not ending. Anyone found selling alcohol to underage children will be dealt with in accordance with the law," he added.
He called on parents to be role models to their children for the sake of their bright future.
"Parents should guide their children and advise them well on the dangers of alcohol so that their future can be constructive," he stated.
