Speaking on Thursday in Trans-Mara where they have put temporary camps, they said the government has ignored their plea which has led to serious suffering.

“As you can see, we have nowhere to sleep or eat, our houses were torched by neighbours but no one has helped us. It is hard for us to begin our normal lives,” said Priscah Kemunto.

She said about five families which were severely affected have been depending on well-wishers especially for food and clothing.

“About five families whom you are seeing here lost all their investments. We have been depending on well-wishers and the critical question remains; for how long are we going to go through this?,” asked Kemunto.

They demanded compensation from the State for their lost properties besides urging the Kisii County leadership to chip in also.

“The government should compensate us. We are also Kenyans like any other persons. We are also sending a message to our county government to also help us,” pleaded Kemunto.

This comes few weeks after tension engulfed the region following alleged cattle rustling that resulted animosity between Abagusii and Maasai communities.

Tension was combated following talks between Governors James Ongwae and Samuel Tunai of Kisii and Narok respectively.
