Legendary soccer maestro Diego Maradona has found himself in trouble after reports emerged that he made racist gestures at South Korean fans rooting for Argentina.
The star is said to have pulled his eyes to the side allegedly mocking the facial look of South Koreans.
Maradona took to social media to rebuff claims that his exchange with the South Koreans was racist.
Today, in the stadium, among so many demonstrations of affection from the people, I was struck by a group of people around a fan who filmed us,” Maradona wrote.“I saw an Asian boy wearing an Argentina T-shirt. I, from afar, tried to tell them how nice it seemed to me that even the Asians cheer for us. And that’s all, guys, come on,” he posted.
FIFA regulations prohibit any discriminatory behaviour.
The world soccer governing body has been cautious in responding go the reports of Maradona's behaviour that has been perceived in some quarters as racist.
