Chief Justice David Maraga yesterday advised 53 newly-admitted advocates to commit their personal and professional lives to ensuring that the rule of law prevails at all times.
“The oath you have taken today binds you to protect and preserve the rule of law and to do no harm. Please, ensure that you do not lend your advocacy and its skills to unjust ends.
The risk of betraying that oath for an advocate is that you cease to become a professional, even if you continue to earn a living from it,” the head of the Judiciary said. Justice Maraga told the fresh advocates at the Supreme Court Building in Nairobi that they have joined a noble profession in which many luminaries had sacrificed much for what they believed in and committed themselves to the pursuit of human dignity.
He challenged them to take up the many available opportunities to make everlasting impact. “The achievement each of you celebrates today is only the beginning.
Great triumphs await you if you will be committed, work hard and embrace the things that matter not just to yourself and your family, but to your community and your profession as well,” he said during the ceremony attended by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Isaac Okero.
