Chief Justice nominee David Maraga has now one more step to go before being formally appointed to the position.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta forwarded his name to the National Assembly for vetting.
According to State House spokesperson Manoh Esipisu, the name was forwarded in past week.
“The name of Judge David Maraga was formally submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the past week, and the President has already transmitted it to the National Assembly,” Esipisu said on Sunday.
Esipisu added that the president expects the National Assembly to approve Maraga's name.
“We expect the National Assembly to consider the nomination when it resumes its sittings in due course,” added Esipisu.
Maraga was nominated by the Judicial Service Commission after being interviewed out of 11 candidates.
If successful, Maraga will succeed Mutunga as the 15th Chief Justice of Kenya.
