The new Chief Justice David Maraga is making good his promise to clear case backlog.
On Thursday, Maraga said cases that are over five years old will be given priority.
The CJ made the remarks at the Bungoma law courts after opening a new court housing.
"Long cases without applicants will be dismissed as they are delaying the process in court and causing the backlog which is a tedious process. We need to dismiss them so that the concerned authorities can concentrate on other cases which should be given an upper hand," he said as quoted by the Standard.
He also revealed that the Judiciary is working to address challenges at the Land Dispute Tribunal, noting that most of the cases in court are related to land disputes.
Just like his predecessor Willy Mutunga, Maraga rooted for the role of elders in dispute resolution saying some of the issues can be handled by elders instead of jamming courts.
