Kwale County is for the first time expected to have a high court after Chief Justice David Maraga commissioned its construction.
The construction will cost Sh390 million.
The CJ said the court will be built a modern one as it will have eight courts, nine judges offices, and a place to breastfeed children when mothers come to court, among others.
Maraga noted that, so far the judiciary has built 39 high courts in the country.
"We want to make sure each county has at least one high court station and land and environment court," he said adding that the Kwale Court will be built to its completion.
The chief justice, however, asked local MPs to propagate for more allocation to the judiciary to help them construct more courts to bring legal services closer to the people.
Maraga said the amount the judiciary is getting is not enough to pay for salaries, cater for expenses and layout construction of courts in sub-counties.
"We want to have a magistrate court at each sub-county in Kwale but if you don't give us money, all these projects will stall," he said.
At the same time, Maraga asked Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya to set aside land with title deeds in every sub-county for the construction of magistrate’s court.
"If you get to land with title deed just informs us we check it out with court users committee and if it meets the standards, we will set up a court in each sub-county," he said.
Mvurya said the court will ease the burden for residents who going to neighboring Counties.
