The President of Kenya's judiciary Chief Justice David Maraga has been honoured for standing up to political bullies and being on the frontline of reasserting judicial independence.Maraga received a C.B Madan award at a ceremony that was held at Strathmore University. The CJ said that his work was governed by Godly principles and a desire to always do what is right.''I am a staunch Christian and I have no apologies for that. My work is governed by Godly principles and this prize is a testament to that.'' Maraga told an audience at the University's auditorium.The award is named after Chunilal Bhagwandas Madan who served during the Moi era.Madan is remembered for his spirited efforts at ridding the judiciary of corrupt judges and restoring integrity to the legal profession.Maraga has been honoured for the courage he demonstrated during the two presidential petitions.Speaking yesterday in Nakuru during the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association Annual General meeting, Maraga noted that 2017 ranks as the worst in terms of attacks on the judiciary.

The award came after the New African Magazine named him in its top 100 list of Africa's influential people.
