The newly appointed Chief Justice was shocked to find the premises locked.

Maraga was informed the magistrates were away in Eldoret attending a seminar.

“Some magistrates should have remained behind to ensure normal court proceedings were not interrupted,” said a disappointed Maraga.

From the law courts, Maraga held a closed door meeting with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

“Kakamega County government has identified land suitable for additional law courts in Likuyani and Navakholo to expedite court cases,” said Oparanya

Oparanya thanked the Judiciary for supporting devolution, adding that it has made a big impact in the country.

“A large number of cases pending in various courts could easily be resolved using alternative means like village elders and chiefs to resolve some of their disputes, it will come a long way to reduce a backlog and speed up the judicial process, ” said Maraga
