Speaking on NTV’s AM Live show on Tuesday, Khalwale argued that the petition seeking to kick Maraga out of office is aimed at massaging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ego after the Supreme Court nullified his win and ordered for fresh presidential elections.

“I don’t think there is any Kenyan who keeps himself abreast with current affairs who will be surprised with what is happening… This is purely a Mt Kenya initiative that is supposed to massage the ego of President Uhuru who was very angry when Maraga nullified his August 8 election win,” said Khlawale.

The Ford Kenya deputy party leader said the petition filed in the National Assembly by lawyer Adrian Kamotho Njenga seeking to initiate the removal of Maraga from office was meant to revisit a similar one filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.

“What this unknown lawyer is doing is simply revisiting what Ngunjiri said earlier on,” said Khalwale.

City lawyer Kamotho Njenga on Monday petitioned Parliament seeking the removal from office of Maraga, Deputy CJ Philemona Mwilu and five other members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The five are, Mohammed Warsame, Aggrey Muchelule, Tom Ojienda, Emily Ominde and Mercy Deche.

In his petition, Njenga accused the JSC members of ‘serious violation of the Constitution’.

In September last year, MP Ngunjiri Wambugu filed a petition seeking to oust Maraga, but later dropped it following the intervention of President Uhuru.

The Jubilee party, through its vice chairman David Murathe has however denied having a hand in Njenga’s petition, terming the allegations as ‘rubbish’.
