Chief Justice David Maraga on Friday apologized to Kenyans for not reading the full judgment for NASA's presidential election petition.
Maraga during the ruling said that he was sorry for disappointing many people.
"We had long hearings and some of them gone to late at night. I am sorry we have to disappoint those who expected a full judgement," he said.
Maraga then went ahead to give a summary of the ruling that nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.
"Given the tonnes of materials placed before us it was not humanly possible to go through the judgments and write a reasoned and well-considered judgment. If we don't deliver a judgment today we will have a crisis," he said.
NASA had filed the petition challenging the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on the grounds that the polls were conducted without following due process as laid down in the Constitution.
The court directed that fresh polls be held within 60 days.
On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that he personally disagreed with the ruling that promised to obey it.
