Chief Justice David Maraga has voiced his opinion on the continued increase of accident cases on Kenyan roads.
The CJ, who spoke on Wednesday blamed careless drivers for the continued rise of accident cases, further urging all road users to obey traffic rules in order to avoid the reckless accidents.
He further added that the judiciary is in full support of measures put in place to ensure road carnage is contained.
He was speaking at the funeral of Meshach Atandi, who perished in a road accident late last year.
“The number of people dying on our roads is a number that we should be worried as a nation. What we can ask is that something is done so that we don’t lose many more people on the roads,”
He added: “The government agencies concerned should double their efforts in order to stop the menace. We have fairly good roads compared to other countries; all that is happening is recklessness that we need as a people to think about. We seem to be in a hurry always,”
The country has seen many road users lose their lives in the last one month, with the Nakuru-Eldoret road among the notorious roads.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has tried to put in place measures to curb the menace, with banning PSV traveling at night being the latest measures.
