Kisii schools competed favorably in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Four schools were among the top 100 nationally after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i released the results on Wednesday.
Riokindo High Secondary School, which registered 117 candidates, was the best school in the county with a performance index of 60.83. The school was ranked at position 36 at the national level.
Kisii High school, where Chief Justice David Maraga studied, came second with a mean score of 59.70. The school, which had 352 candidates, was ranked position 43 nationally.
St Charles Lwanya Ichuni Girls High school took the third position with a mean score of 54.16 while Nyabisase Mixed Secondary School emerged the fourth with a performance index of 54.12. The two scooped position 97 and 98 respectively.
While releasing this year’s examinations, Matiang’i said that students who got above C+ reduced from88, 929 (15.41 percent) to 70,073 (11.38 percent).
“Overall, the number of candidates with minimum university entry qualification of Mean Grade C+ and above is 70,073 (11.38 percent) in the 2017 KCSE examination compared to 88,929 (15.41 percent) in 2016,” said Matiang’i, as quoted by Daily Nation.
A total of 615,773 candidates sat for KCSE this year compared to 577,253 candidates who registered for the examinations in 2016.
