According to Kahawatungu, he was arrested on Monday this week after a man who reportedly assaulted him claimed that he attempted to sodomise him.
Kandara Police boss Gregory Mutiso has however said the two gave contradicting accounts of the happenings.
Last week, neighbours reportedly rescued Sam from a lodging in Kenol after he raised a distress call.
Police found him bleeding heavily when they arrived at the scene at about 5 in the morning.
He was rushed to hospital while his assailant was apprehended by police.
“At the police station the suspect narrated why he was fighting the candidate,” said Mr Mutiso.
The assailant however said Wairimu had tried to sexually assault him, something that prompted the beat down.
Wairimu said the suspect was against him because he felt at threat from his rising political star.
He will now face sodomy charges while the second suspect will be charged with physical assault.
