A group of Marakwet community professionals in Uasin Gishu county have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and help bring to an end killings of innocent locals along the Kerio Valley.Led by the group's Secretary General Kipkorir Chemongwo, the professionals also want individuals fanning the killings to be arrested and prosecuted."Marakwet community has suffered immensely and continues to suffer due to banditry and cattle rustling activities perpetrated by the neighboring communities. Just four days ago we lost three people in Lelan division following an attack by armed cattle rustlers who torched over 300 houses," Chemongwo told the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday."In the last one year ove120 lives have been lost, how long will this continue? We are urging President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to intervene before things get out of hand. These attacks are utterly unacceptable, barbaric and retrogressive," he added.The Marakwet professionals also demanded for the arrest of political leaders who have been perpetrating violence in the region apart from return of 300 cows and 100 sheep valued at Sh21 million that were have been stolen in the area.They also called for declaration of banditry in Kerio valley as a national disaster.
