Kisii County government has been challenged to increase security lights at Marani Market to allow marker traders conduct their business till 10pm.
According to the traders, the market has only one security light that cannot assure safety for them since the market is big.
Speaking on Monday in the market, the traders led by Teresa Ombwori noted that it is difficult for them to conduct their business up to 10pm because of insecurity in the market.
“Somebody may come and buy tomatoes for instance but gives you fake money. It is difficult to know the money because there is not enough light in the market. That is a challenge for us,” said Eunice Nyaboke.
The traders have challenged the county government to add them three security lights in the market to enhance their safety.
“We pay tax on Mondays and Wednesdays. The government should use the money to increase security lights. I appeal to the Kisii governor to look for the best solution over the matter,” added Nyaboke.
Meanwhile, the traders challenged the county government to employ people who can collect litter and put dustbins at all corners of the market
“We need our market to be clean always. The government should do the necessary and employ people who can clean the town,” said James Ogega, a trader.
