Speaking today in his office, area OCPD Mr. Benjamin Kimwele said many youths were involved in theft due to idleness that has been precipitated by rampant unemployment in the country.

“We have recorded many cases of theft mostly planned and executed by the youths. Last week alone, we recorded over thirty cases from different parts of this sub county. Our youths are idle due to harsh economic situation but that isn’t an excuse to theft”, he said.

The police force said Marani Township was immensely affected since it recorded over fifteen cases of the thirty where many houses were reportedly vandalized by unknown youths.

“It is not the entire sub county per se but the township [Marani] is the most affected. Over the last week, many houses were broken by the thugs who vanished with goods worthy thousands of shillings. Pick pocketing is also another rising trend in this region”, said the police boss.

He said whoever will be found roaming outside past eight O’clock in the evening without concrete reasons would be apprehended to explain reasons of being late outside.

“I understand we have freedom of movements and forth, but from today, we will apprehend those youths fond of having Kamukunji’s past eight in the evening”, he said.

He urged village elders to remain vigil and report criminal cases in time to enable police pursue perpetrators and avail them in court for judicial process.
