Kenyoro residents from Marani sub-county have asked the State to beef up security in the area following rampant cases of insecurity that has led to the death of four people in separate incidents.
Speaking today (Sunday) during the burial of Mama Glory Ouko who was allegedly attacked by anonymous people before he succumbed to her injuries, speaker after speaker condemned the incident and called for improved security in the area.
The mourners accused Police of failing to take action even after reporting suspected youths who have been allegedly executing the killings in their mission of robbing the area residents.
“We are tired of burying our people attacked by criminals every time. We can no longer continue counting deaths and time has come for the State to act,” said Mary Ombwori one of the mourners.
Some of them claimed that Police are sleeping on their job, a situation they said ought to be changed urgently.
“We have reported to Police about these cases and even named suspected people, but nothing concrete has been done yet,” added Wellington Orina.
However, the area OCPD Boniface Kimwele defended his officers from the accusation but promised to deploy more officers to pursue culprits and apprehend them.
“The Police are not doing badly but we will increase the numbers so that they over power those criminals causing havoc in the area. I am aware of these incidents and we want to continue pursuing those criminals,” said OCPD Kimwele.
Those angry residents have now given the State a week to respond to their plea or else they hold a peaceful demonstration to seek forcible transfer of security personnel who are allegedly neglecting their duties so that they get replaced with other competent officers.
