Former National Assembly speaker Kenneth Marende would complicate opposition leader Raila Odinga's scheme to retain Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
Both the opposition and Jubilee Party are keen to win the seat currently held by Evans Kidero of ODM.
Jubilee has made its intention known with Deputy President William Ruto urging government supporters to ensure the seat is delivered.
And on Monday, Marende reportedly met Odinga in his Bondo home where they reportedly discussed possibilities of joining Nairobi gubernatorial race.
"If he formally joins Nairobi race on ODM, he will further complicate math or Odinga. ODM will have to plan a nomination instead of focusing on elections," says political analyst Gideon Mamboleo.
"He is an ideal candidate but I see a scenario where ODM will now divert a lot of energy in nominations rather than general elections," he adds.
Marende was first elected Emuhaya MP in 2007 before retaining the seat under ODM in 2007.
He was elected Speaker during the largely divided parliament after 2007 election where he managed to control the divided house.
It is yet to be known however, when he is resigning from Kenya Electricity Board where he sits as chairperson.
