Marende, formerly Emuhaya MP told News24 that he had applied for the position because he trusts that he has a job to do in ensuring Kenya’s judiciary is cleaner and more efficient.

“I want to serve Kenyans and improve the Judiciary in the same way the former Chief Justice did,” he stated.

He added that the position will help him fulfil a longtime dream of ensuring that justice is available to all Kenyans.

“It will be a lie to say that justice in Kenya is applied on equal terms for all and as a result I want to change that,” he added.

Marende has been an anti-opposition crusader in recent times, despite ODM fronting him for Speaker after the 2007 elections.

He has called on Kenyans to quit ODM and Cord and support the Jubilee Coalition.

The former CJ Willy Mutunga retired last month.

According to the Judiciary Service Commision JSC, so far there have been six applicants for the role.

They include Professor Makau Mutua, Marende, Supreme Court Judge Dr Smokin Wanjala along with Court of Appeal Judges David Maranga, Alnashir Vishram, as well as High Court judges Msagah Mbogholi and Judge Richard Mwongo.
