Former Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende has stated why he is not interested in the Chief Justice position despite being seen by many as the suitable candidate to succeed Dr Willy Mutunga who retired barely one moth ago.
The former Emuhaya legislator said that he was surprised to see his name appearing in the newspapers that he is among those who have applied for the Judiciary's top job.
Marende stated that he has other things to pursue even as he hinted at a possibility of making a political comeback in 2017.
"I have other interests. Very soon, I will apply to Kenyans to serve them in the position commensurate with the one I was holding before 2013. You will remember that at that time, I was position three in the pecking," Marende was quoted by the Standard newspaper.
Marende noted that he read mischief in the reports that he had applied for the CJ position but later realised that it could be the sign of the 'amount of faith' Kenyans had in him.
The former lawmaker will be remembered to have won the hearts of many Kenyans during his tenure as the Speaker of the National Assembly with his 'Solomonic rulings' at a time when the grand-coalition government was on the brink of collapse.
