Led by their chairman Joseph Kiragu, the residents vowed not to bow to pressure adding that they had the right to be heard.

The road which leads Mariaini to Gatunguru is in a dilapidated situation where only bodaboda operators are able to veer. Public service vehicles have been forced to take Gakoe route to Mataara after several cars got stuck on the road.

Residents had in the last two weeks issued a notice of rioting over delayed renovation of the impassable road and were given a go ahead by police.

The rowdy residents on Wednesday carrying placards chanted ‘Kabogo si governor’ as they moved to Gituamba ward offices where the MCA’s offices are located.

Speaking to press, the irked electorates said Kabogo had discriminated the area and failed to fulfill to them a promise he made two months ago.

"We have suffered enough. The county has abandoned their responsibility. These roads should be given back to MPs," argued Janet Nyambura, a resident who was protesting.

"Kabogo promised to reconstruct this road after a constructor did a shoddy work and went away leaving us with this mayhem," said Moses Karimi, another resident.

The residents were later addressed by Gituamba ward member of county assembly Sammy Ng’ang’a who promised to push for the renovation of the road.

"The county has allocated enough money for renovation of Mariaini road but the money has not been officially cleared. I will push for fastening of the process to have the road renovated by early July," said the MCA.
