Mariaini area residents in Gatundu North Sub-County on Saturday evening demonstrated as the marched towards the office of the District Commissioner, protesting against the sale of illegal liquor in the area.
The irate public said that the youth in the area have become addicts to the liquor, which is suspected to be laced with hard drugs.
James Mburu, a resident, who was among the protesters said his two sons are victims of the liquor, whose side effects results in behaving like mentally disturbed persons and evading home chores.
“We are grieved by the fact that the alcohol is being sold to under-age youths. My two sons are victims and whenever they drink they start drooling from the mouth and behaving abnormally,” said Mburu.
Monicah Njambi, a businesswoman in Mariaini shopping centre, said that the brews’ notorious seller, is well known by both residents and the police officers.
“The District Commissioner should step-in and rescue the youth. The owner of the small bar is well known to the police officers because he was recently arrested and found in possession of illegal drugs but released later,” said Mama Njeri, who is also a resident.
The residents now want the area OCPD to be given immediate transfer before the area turns to be an alcoholic ‘industry’.
