Police in Watamu, Mombasa County have impounded 571 Marijuana rolls with a street value of about Sh150,000.
The police who were acting on a tip off from members of the public said the Marijuana was found in a residential house.
Confirming the incident, Malindi police chief Matawa Muchangi said they raided the homestead of the suspect and they found the drugs stored in a 250 litre-tank and well sealed in the house.
Mr Muchangi while speaking to journalists said they however did not manage to arrest the owner of the house after he managed to escape the raid.
“We got information from good Samaritan who volunteered information to us and that’s when we raid the house and recovered the marijuana.”
“A man suspected to be the owner of the house escaped police dragnet and is currently being hunted down,” said Mr Muchangi.
The police boss lauded members of the public for volunteering information saying the officers will intensify patrols in order to curb crime in the area.
“We will be on the look out and arrest those involved in the drug business. We urge the residents to work with the police and report any suspicious individuals to the police,” he said.
