Speaking while addressing students at Joytown School for the Physically Challenged on Thursday, nominated MCA, Esther Ngugi, noted that by setting aside the space, persons with disabilities will be economically empowered and therefore be able to cater for their financial needs.

“Persons living with disabilities have been marginalised in the economic sector. Many do not have access to economic opportunities in the county and reserving the five percent in markets would be a way of empowering them economically,” she claimed.

Ngugi added that the disabled should be given a chance to engage in economic activities calling on the county government to consider equality when allocating trading spaces in the markets.

She said that the disabled have special abilities which should not be ignored, saying everybody was a candidate of disability.

Ngugi observed that if a disabled person is given an opportunity to develop economically and performs highly, the other disabled persons will get motivated to perform as well.
