Under Kiama Kia Ma elders, the group termed polygamous marriages as the best way for men especially of the Kikuyu ethnic community to increase its population.

They said for years, men had neglected their children born out of wedlock.

The elders spoke during its National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Saturday at Heritage Resort in Naivasha.

While reading a joint communiqué, the council's national chairman Kigochi Waimiri said time is ripe for the country to start taking parenting seriously.

Waimiri said the move by Wamuchomba was a step in the right direction if the country was to get rid of street children.

“We are now urging our men to look for the children they sired outside marriage and support them as this issue is now public," Waimiri said.

“I now call upon men from the Gikuyu community and who are able to cater for the needs of more than one wife to marry and in this we shall also increase on our population," he added.
