Speaking on Citizen TV’s Cheche show, Martha said all Narc Kenya branches will decide on the candidates to back in 2017.

“We felt as a party we will not make a decision to back any single presidential candidate,” she said.

“We will leave it to the branches to make their choice on which candidate to support,” she added.

Karua said her statement last week in Kirinyaga County were taken out of context and that she did not say that she will back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

She said it was the decision of the Kirinyaga branch to support the President.

“When I was speaking in Kirinyaga County, we were articulating the opinion of the Kirinyaga government and I know that most of the branches in Mount Kenya region, speaking to the chairmen, they are very clear that they are supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 elections,” she said.

“I think it is not fair to ask me which presidential candidates I will back, we should have a culture of respecting the secret ballot,” she added.
