Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has called on acting Education CS Fred Matiang’i not to transfer school heads with poor performance records. This comes after Matiang’i ordered the arrest and prosecution of politicians opposing the head teachers’ transfers and inciting residents to reject the new school heads.“However @FredMatiangi should ensure non-performers are not sent to other schools!” wrote Karua in a tweet on Friday. The move by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) under the leadership of Nancy Macharia to carry out a mass transfer of school heads has been faced with resistance.Transferred school heads have received a hostile reception in most parts of the country, with political leaders arguing that some principals with a poor performance record have been posted to schools that perform well.In Bungoma County, four Members of County Assembly on Wednesday stormed Kamusinga Boys High School and evicted the newly posted principal. The MCAs also threatened to call the students to reinforce their actions.Similar standoffs were experienced in Makueni and West Pokot counties.Six Ward Reps from Makueni who had attempted to prevent the new St Joseph’s Girls’ High School principal in Kibwezi from accessing the institution’s compound were arrested. In Migori County, the principal of Nyangere Secondary School in Nyatike sub-county, Mr Odunga Nyamusi, was also ejected from the school on Thursday.Matiang’i has directed regional coordinators to arrest and present those caught in such acts for prosecution.
