The raw at between Mombasa Governor Ali Hassana Joho and the Coast Regional Coordinator Hassan Marwa is far from over, after Marwa claimed the governor has been recruiting ex-military officers as his bodyguards.
Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa for the first time since the withdrawal of Joho and Amason Kingi’s security details, the coordinator warned the governor that he is not off the hook yet, and he will be keeping an eye on him.
“If you are an ex-military and you’re given a task to do during this campaigns, its better you leave now because the government will come after you,” said Marwa.
“Hata wanifanye nini, in fact let me tell you, tangu nitoke Ghana, kwa mara ya kwanza leo nimetembea bila walinzi (since I came from Ghana, for the first time I’ve walked around without security) and I can tell you I’m the happiest man on earth, I drove myself to this venue, and I’m going to drive myself,” said Joho.
However, Marwa has accused Governor Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi of running a militia group criminal group to unleash during the August general election.
“We will go to the elections when there is law and order, whether you like it or not,” added Marwa.
Mombasa traffic marshals have also been put on the spot, with Marwa claiming they are stationed even in minor roads to provide protection to drug barons who belong to the county government.
“Wanashika watu na wanaenda wanawapiga, this is a security question, ni wangapi (they arrest people and even beat them up) why is that of late there is an excessive employment of inspectorate on all major roads, even minor roads? What is the agenda?
He further dismissed claims that the withdrawal of officers from the two governors was discriminatory, adding that the move will apply to all six Coast Governors.
